Dr. Faris B. Mismar is a technical leader, consultant, and adjunct associate professor of electrical and computer engineering. He received the B.S. degree with high distinction in computer engineering from the University of Jordan in 2004, the M.S. degree in electrical engineering and MBA degree both with the highest distinction from the University of Texas at Dallas in 2011 and 2014, and the Ph.D. degree in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Texas at Austin in 2019. He was the recipient of the 2016 and 2017 Marcus Wallenberg Foundation Scholarship for Scientific Research and Education. Dr. Mismar held various senior positions and leadership roles at Motorola, Ericsson, Samsung, and Nokia. He was elevated to IEEE Senior Member in 2017 and was recognized as a Nokia Bell Labs Distinguished Member of Technical Staff in 2023. He is currently a senior principal consultant at Nokia Bell Labs and an adjunct faculty member at the University of Texas at Dallas. His research interests include machine learning, artificial intelligence, and wireless communications.
Faris B. Mismar (Senior Member IEEE, 2017) was born in Illinois, USA. He received the B.S. degree with high distinction in computer engineering from the University of Jordan in 2004, the M.S. degree in electrical engineering and MBA degree both with the highest distinction from the University of Texas at Dallas in 2011 and 2014, and the Ph.D. degree in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Texas at Austin in 2019.
From 2004 to 2008, he was a Telecommunications Engineer with Motorola. From 2009 to 2018, he was a Senior Solutions Manager, Radio Access Networks with Ericsson. From 2019 to 2020, he was a Director of Radio Performance Assurance and Engineering with Samsung Electronics America. He joined Nokia in 2020 as the Head of Data Science and Analytics Practice, Mobile Networks. Since 2022, he has been a Senior Principal Consultant at Nokia Bell Labs Consulting in Dallas, TX. He has been an Adjunct Associate Professor with the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department, University of Texas at Dallas since Fall 2024. He is the author of more than 10 conferences and journals. He served as a consultant and advisor for many leading wireless communications service providers and governments in different continents. His research interests are in the area of radio resource management in cellular communications using machine learning. He holds three patents with several pending.
Dr. Mismar was a recipient of the University of Jordan Award for Excellence in 2004, a recipient of the Marcus Wallenberg Foundation Scholarship for Scientific Research and Education award in 2016 and 2017, and a recipient of the Nokia Bell Labs Distinguished Member of Technical Staff recognition award in 2023 for "sustained contributions with proven impact" and excellence in the fields of wireless communications and artificial intelligence.
